History of UVic-UCC

Recognition of the University of Vic in 1997 was a key factor for regional development as a driving force for central Catalonia.

  • UVic-UCC has its origins in the 9th and 10th centuries, with the establishment of the Scriptorium and Cathedral School, the forerunner of the future university.
  • The University Teacher Training School and the first courses in Nursing opened the way to the current University enterprise, with its distinctive model of governance, combining four federated institutions.

Creation of the Literary University of Vic. On 26 June King Philip III granted the Estudi General de Vic the privilege of conferring degrees in Arts and Philosophy.

Closure of the University. In retaliations after the War of the Spanish Succession, King Philip V suppressed all Catalan universities and founded the University of Cervera.

Founding of the Vic Seminary, bringing higher education back to the city, this time in Theology.
